Chimwiini.com was established in 2022 to revive the oral language of Chimwiini or Chimbalazi dialect which spoken in the south-west of Somalia, specifically in a city called Baraawe. Chi- is a prefix denoting "language", and Miini (Mwiini) is the alternative name of Barawa, the Bravanese people themselves would never call the town as Barawa or Brava, but rather as Miini. Chimwiini is a standard version of the original Bravanese language which is called Chimbalazi. Read more about the history of Baraawe.
At Chimwiini, we aim to restore and preserve the Chimwiini language, starting with the fundamentals, laying out the foundations; the alphabet, phonetic, grammars, vocabulary, pronunciation, etc. We will being to create writing materials for online and hard-copy for all the schools in Baraawe.
